Paid Search Marketing (PPC)
Clicks up, costs down.

Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising (or Paid Search) refers to paying a fee every time a visitor clicks on your advertisement placed in a search engine results page. These ads are typically displayed on the top and right hand side of the search engine results page.  This “cost per click” program charges the advertiser only when their ad is clicked. The search engines show paid placement listings as “Sponsor Listings”, which are distinguished from the organic listings. Google’s PPC program is called Adwords, and Bing’s PPC program is called adCenter.

Why Pay Per Click Works:

  • Instant Traffic: If implemented properly, paid search will instantly drive traffic to your site, in contrast to organic search which requires changes to a website’s structure – and a lot of patience – to rank on the search engine results pages.
  • Control: Paid placement provides control over what your ads say and allows you to fine-tune the wording until you reach the most targeted searchers. You can even write several different ads for a specific term (at no additional cost!) to see which ad draws the most clickers.
  • Branding: You pay per click – so even if your ad is displayed but not clicked, you are getting your company name out there, without having to pay for it.
  • Scalable: Pay-Per-Click implements a proxy-bidding methodology, where you set the maximum amount you wish to spend per keyword. You can spend as little as $5 dollars a day to have your ads prominently displayed on page one, and stop your ads from displaying whenever you wish at the click of a button.

Pay Per Click campaigns can get complicated if you are trying to advertise dozens of products (or more!) with hundreds or thousands of keyword phrases in numerous geographic markets. Knowing how to properly segment your campaigns is half the battle. The more organized and relevant the campaign, the lower the cost per click for the advertiser. Many newbie PPC advertisers waste large amounts of money because they simply do not know the optimal way to structure a campaign (don’t be that guy).
